“Had I right, for my own benefit, to inflict this curse upon everlasting generations?”
– Mary Shelley, Frankenstein
First off, I’d like to offer my profuse apologies if you’d pinned your hopes on Six Noises disappearing into a deep dark hole forever.
Sadly, if that is the case, I have some bad news for you. Because, like Frankenstein’s monster lurching up off the slab, Six Noises is born again. (For a while, at least.)
Well, I’ve had a five-month break from the music writing game, and in that time I’ve proven to be entirely unemployable elsewhere.
I’m not entirely sure why that is.
It could be that my specific areas of expertise – blathering with my patented dyslexic aplomb about niche music, and hanging out the washing like a boss – aren’t the sexiest skill sets in 2016.
Maybe it’s that chubby and scurfy Generation X recluses who can’t operate a smartphone aren’t in high demand.
Or, perhaps, all those psychologist appointments I’ve been attending these past months signal that my delightful quirks are a little … well, let’s just say, more pronounced, at present.
Ultimately, who cares. The point is, I’ve got truck loads of time on my hands, and there’s really only so many hours I can fill watching shark documentaries on YouTube.
Admittedly, my return might also have something to do with the fact I forgot to turn off the automatic renewal for the Six Noises domain. And now it’s ticked over for another year. So I feel compelled to fill this space for a while to get my goddamn money’s worth.
Anyway, reasons schmeasons, compadres. There’s been oodles of great music released in 2016, especially round my neck of the woods, and I’m going to talk about that for a little while longer.
How long? Who knows. Life’s a mercurial motherfucker at the best of times.
What I can say is that the same rules as before will apply here at Six Noises.
If it’s loud, weird and/or in-your-face, I’m likely to be interested. If it’s music from my end of the world, then doubly so. I’ll no doubt continue to gripe about a few things while getting (pathetically) nostalgic about a few others as well. So if that all sounds rock ’n’ roll enough for you, I’ll see you back here for Six Noises: Part Deux.
